| Imaging Associates of Providence Valley Office Earns its C.O.N.
In early spring, the Commissioner of the State of Alaska Department of Health and Human Services announced that Imaging Associates of Providence had earned a Certificate of Need (CON) permit for the company’s Mat-Su Valley Office. The company received the official permit on May 5, 2009. A similar permit had been granted for Imaging Associate’s Anchorage office on July 25, 2008.
The CON program is a state review process designed to ensure that new medical facilities or services will meet public need, while preventing excessive, unnecessary or duplicative development of facilities or services.
Prior to opening, Imaging Associates was advised by the Health and Human Services Commissioner that a CON application was not required. After opening, that decision was reversed following an appeal by the for-profit Mat-Su Regional Medical Center. Imaging Associates complied by submitting a CON application for its Anchorage and Mat-Su facilities in January 2008.
Imaging Associates was created by a group of local physicians in partnership with Providence Health System. The owners have invested more than $12 million, as well as significant time and effort, into building an office with facilities to benefit the community by providing advanced imaging technology services.
State-of-the-art diagnostic technology services at Imaging Associates include MRIs, CAT scans, X-rays, bone densitometry, varicose vein treatment, digital mammography, and other women’s imaging services.
