Yes. Ultrasound does not use radiation and is considered safe for all patients, including those who are pregnant.
What should I expect during the exam?
You will lie comfortably while a technologist applies warm gel to the skin and moves a small handheld device over the area being examined. The exam is typically quick and painless.
Do I need to prepare?
No special preparation is needed for a breast ultrasound.
Will this replace a mammogram?
Breast ultrasound is usually used as a complementary exam, not a replacement for screening mammography.
