Do I need to prepare for my MRI?
Most MRI exams require little to no preparation. You can usually eat, drink, and take medications as normal unless your provider gives specific instructions. Our team will let you know ahead of time if anything special is needed.

Is MRI noisy?
You will hear some noise: tapping or knocking sounds during your MRI. That noise is normal and happens as we adjust the scanner to take different pictures we need. It means the exam is progressing as expected. Hearing protection is always provided, and our technologists will explain what to expect before and during your scan.

What if I feel nervous or claustrophobic?
Some patients feel this way. We offer open and wide-bore MRI options, and our technologists take time to position you comfortably and talk you through the exam. Let us know if you have concerns so we can help make the experience as comfortable as possible.

How long does an MRI take?
Most MRI exams take between 30 and 60 minutes. Some exams may take longer if additional images are needed. We will review the timing with you before the exam begins.

Will I need contrast?
Some MRI exams use contrast to improve image detail, while others do not. If contrast is needed, we will review this with you ahead of time and answer any questions.

Is MRI safe?
Yes. MRI does not use ionizing radiation. Safety screening is part of every exam, and our team carefully reviews your medical history to ensure MRI is appropriate for you.

What if I have metal in my body or an implant?
Many implants are MRI-safe, but not all. We review this information in advance to ensure your exam can be performed safely.

What should I wear?
Wear comfortable clothing without metal fasteners. You may be asked to change into a gown.

Will I need to stay still?
Yes. Staying still helps us capture clear images. Our technologists will help position you comfortably and let you know when images are being taken.

Can I drive myself home afterward?
Yes. Most patients can return to normal activities right away.

How will I get my results?
Images are interpreted by subspecialized radiologists and sent directly to your provider, who will review results with you. You may also request them through our Guest Services team.
